Targeting, conversions, and engagement for mobile apps
Today, we opened up a free analytics service to enable developers to measure the conversion rate of mobile downloads to actual users. Developers want users, not downloads, but before now it was very time consuming to set up tracking codes and analytics to measure conversion of app store downloads to users. GetJar now automates this, allowing developers to analyze the performance of their application by phone, country, and network. There are over 2,500 different mobile phone models that can browse the web and download apps. Each of these phone models has different variations for carriers and versions over time. GetJar tracks 25,000 different variations in total! Traditionally, developers had to try to test their app on as many phones as possible and hope it worked on the rest. There was no inexpensive way to test their app on every phone, so they made their best guess and let the users try it anyway. Even developers with the best intentions couldn’t possibly discover and test every carrier and firmware variation for every phone. Thus, users became defacto testers and were subjected to many apps that simply didn’t run on their phones. With GetJar conversion tracking, developers know where their apps run, and where they don’t. This conversion data allows developers to improve their apps, increase conversion, and gain an advantage over the competition, by increasing users, not just downloads. In addition, developers that use the GetJar Pay per Download promotion system can manage their cost per active user and optimize their marketing efficiency. To get started, read the documentation, implement the API call, and analyze the data in the conversions and engagement reports. Here’s an example report: conversion You can segment your report by phone to find on which phones downloads convert to users best, and importantly, which phones don’t convert at all. This will help you identify technical issues without the expense and shortcomings of large testing teams. In addition to measuring the conversion rate of downloads to users, the API supports engagement and two custom events to measure activations, sharing, or payments. Finally, developers that host their apps on their own sites using GetJar App Download Page can track conversions for app downloads from their own sites. All analytics from GetJar, including downloads, conversion, and engagement, are available for apps downloaded from the App Download Page and GetJar.
